Bookmarks

Who really knows how collections start...or how they might shape your development without you realizing it? I don't remember my first bookmark, and honestly, I've always been one to leave a book open upside down rather than using a bookmark like a civilized person. Yet, decades before I ended up a librarian, these started accumulating in a bedroom drawer.

Yet somehow, I've accumulated quite the collection of bookmarks. Clearly cats, Garfield, and Harry Potter played large roles in my childhood. Some were free, many were from Scholastic book sales (note the colored yarn for those), and the rest were given from people's travels. I wonder if bookmarks will continue to remain popular for gifts with the advent of ereaders?

Here are some new additions that I was given this summer, from California, Virginia, and Tanzania. Note that the giraffe bookmark hand-carved wood.
