James Dean as Cal Trask in Elia Kazan's East of Eden is the original Edward Cullen.
Pale, thin, and beautiful. Check.
Superhuman running and jumping abilities. Check.
Awkward love triangle. Check.
Mysterious and brooding. Check and double check.
Time to give back.... What's adaptation would you say is farthest from the book or more moralizing than tolerable?
Hint. My thought is that East of Eden will make that list. :)

I've never seen Charlie, but I've heard it really doesn't do justice to Flowers for Algernon. Also, Bladerunner basically tells an entirely different story than Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, although it's a reasonably good movie in its own right if you like campy sci-fi.
